Casting A Clear Chimney

Hello, I am a volunteer with an organisation restoring a Victorian railway (railroad) carriage. for which a new lighting fixture is required. This fixture requires a part producing that looks like the glass chimney of an oil lamp - see embedded image. Safety dictates that we do not use glass hence I am keen to understand whether it could be possible to produce such items by resin casting. Perhaps readers could offer some views guidance. Please note, the wall thickness would be between 2 and 3mm. The finished fixture will be illuminated by low voltage LED bulbs.

Resin casting could definitely work for that kind of part, with a 2 to 3mm wall thickness. Just make sure to use a clear, UV resistant resin so it won't yellow or degrade over time, especially with light exposure. Low voltage lighting won't generate much heat, so resin should be safe and durable enough for your needs

I agreee with @Ken.erdie but have you looked into PETG or acrylic as alternatives too? They're lightweight and safer than glass.
