We added a 10" resin printer to our garage setup here in North Carolina, mostly for my roommate's prop builds and my own casting experiments. The sample rook was smooth enough that I didn't even sand it before testing a silicone mold. I've used higher-end printers before, but this one might be a good fit for quick turnaround casting parts. Planning to try some translucent resins next week and see how they cure. Has anyone had issues with warping or shrinkage when using budget printers for resin casting masters?

Garage casting setup gets a new resin printer

I use a budget resin printer in my garage for bike parts and props with my cousin. I've seen warping when we cured too fast or made thin pieces. For clear resin, we let prints sit a day and cure longer with UV. That kept the shape right for silicone molds.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one using a budget printer in the garage for props and molding parts. Your tip about letting the translucent resin rest before a long, slow cure is something I hadn't thought of and I appreciate it. I have a few parts printing now, so I'll try your 'rest and slow cure' method this weekend. When you perform a longer UV cure, do you use a specific wattage lamp or simply leave the parts under a regular one for a longer period?
