Pin Oak cookies

This past winter I had to drop a 100 plus year old Pin Oak tree due to it dropping some very large limbs near my vehicles as of late. Looking at the cross section of the tree I had the cutters slice me an 8 inch thick cookie to be able to take to the sawmill and slice into a few usable tabletop cookies.

The cross sections had a very unique look and I had an idea to make them into something special.

What I started with.

After a few days of sanding and cleaning out the crevice and applying the first coast of blue resin.

Now after numerous fills of clear resin.

I've still got a few crevices that need to be completed with resin, but I'm getting there. The slowest part of the whole process is pouring and waiting a day or two before being able to work on it again.

Finally finished up the cookie tables for the pool deck. Welded up a pair of metal stands for the cookies to reside on and painted them in a med brown to blend in. To get these to look just the way I wanted them it took 8 gallons of deep pour resin and many weeks to get it filled and smooth.

With these being 54 inches in diameter and about 4"s thick they are quite heavy to move around so my son and I moved them up on the deck in multiple pieces and re-assembled them on the pool deck.
