A few questions, but I'll tell what I do first. Got involved with simple casting over 30 years ago. A dedicated caster that carved and did scale auto kits got me started in model car stuff. I've never used pressure or vac, just simple one piece or 2 piece molds. Used lots of Smoothon and Alumilite. Never had issues with platinum or tin. Never realized the difference. Now I have issues, so I came here with questions and maybe some advice. I mostly do slot car repro parts fro the 60's and some bodies. Couple bodies I made.

Thanks Alan. Cure inhibition has been my problem. I think I beat it by going back to basics. I got a new batch of Alumilite Amazing platinum. I took some NOS slot car tires from the 60's and gave them 2 coats of clear laqcuer. I then made open sided molds of the tires. No issues with inhibition. I painted 2 coats of the Alumilite silicone to silicone release like I use when making a 2 part car body mold.
First pour I used some black dye I had and it was thick and didn't work very good. That pour was gummy and I threw them out. I cleaned the molds with alcohol and painted with release again. Finally I poured the Alumilite Amaz platinum in the molds with no dye, left it red. I got decent red tires this time. Not sure if I can dye the red, but using all the same fresh materials I am getting satisfactory results. I finally got results I wanted, but need to figure out if I can dye the plat black. My dye was probably 30 years old and opened. I remembered very little did the trick 30 years ago. thanks
